Humiliated Grapes

There is a scene in the movie “Benny & Joon” where Joon explains how she won’t eat raisins because raisins are “humiliated grapes.” I feel this adequately describes the variations or adjustments I am making to the original, normal dance moves, like the Jazz run and the chaine turn. They are like the “humiliated grape” version of the real thing. My humblest apologies to the authentic, and much better, Jazz run and chaine turn in all its beautiful perfection as is. However, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. And the “humiliated grape” Jazz run and chaine turn allows me the freedom of dancing without risking my Achilles tendon.

I’ve also begun choreographing a chair dance to Selena Gomez’s song “Rock God.” Another completely safe way to dance for my injured Achilles tendons. I plan to choreograph a dance completely on my feet once I’ve converted enough Jazz moves to Achilles-tendon safe versions of the originals.

Maybe you should do a post on what chairs are best to dance with. A couch, I’d imagine, would be very different than a folding chair.

Now my creative juices are flowing, egging me on to rise to the challenge of making an awesome couch dance the likes of which the world has never seen before!
